It is reported that the major Ukrainian steelmakers have released their preliminary production results for the first six months of 2009.
Accordingly, during the given period Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol reduced its finished steel product output by 50.4% and its pipe production by 71%YoY to 1.338 million tonnes and 17,200 tonnes respectively. Ilyich’s crude steel production decreased by 46.8%, its pig iron output by 42.4% and its agglomerate production by 48%YoY. The respective figures in metric tons were 1.897 million, 1.609 million and 3.602 million.
During the first six months of 2009, Azovstal decreased its crude steel output by 40.6% to 1.881 million tonnes, its pig iron production by 38.5% to 1.610 million tonnes and its finished steel production by 39% to 1.759 million tonnes all compared to the corresponding period of 2008. Meanwhile, Azovstal’s agglomerate production saw a slight decrease of two percent to 956,000 tonnes while its metallurgical coke output registered a drop of 25.1% to 926,100 tonnes YoY.
In January-June 2009, ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih produced 2.114 million tonnes of finished steel down by 38.7% YoY, 2.293 million tonnes of crude steel down by 41.5% YoY, 2.025 million tonnes of pig iron down by 41.7%YoY and 3.661 million tonnes of agglomerate down by 36.4% YoY all compared to the first six months of 2008.
During the period in question, Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works reduced its pig iron production by 30%YoY, its crude steel production by 32.8%, its finished steel production by 32% and its agglomerate production by 14.5%. The respective figures in metric tons were 1.6 million, 1.768 million, 1.637 million and 2.130 million.
During the first half of 2009, Yenakievo Iron and Steel Works decreased its pig iron production by 28.9%YoY to 1.019 million tonnes, its crude steel production by 23% YoY to 1.156 million tonnes, its finished steel output by 26.6% YoY to 1.086 million tonnes and its agglomerate production by 11.8% YoY to 1.025 million tonnes all compared with the same period last year.
In January to June 2009, Makeevsk MZ did not produce any crude steel or pig iron and registered a 46% decrease in its finished steel output to 302,000 tonnes.
