Derail caused major headaches for CSX Railroads
Saturday, 04 Jul 2009

WSB Radio reported that a train derailment in south Fulton County on July 1st 2009 will mean major headaches for CSX Railroads.

Mr George Louth with the Union City Police Department tells WSB the train was heading southbound, when it jumped the tracks near the Flat Shoals intersection, is a major freight line.

He added that "The terminal point for that particular line is Jacksonville, but it's also affecting the second main line that goes to Mobile. We do have hazardous materials and general cargo and motor vehicles and things of that nature that are transported on these lines on a regular basis."

Nearly 20 cars overturned when the train, carrying coal, derailed. The line will have to be closed for the next couple of days while the area is cleaned up.

He said that "The Flat Shoals Road crossing is going to be closed for a couple of days while they get this cleared. Flat Shoals is a relatively major roadway for commuters."
