Water storage dam is necessary for coal mine safety - Peabody Energy
Saturday, 04 Jul 2009

Peabody Energy said that water storage dam is necessary for coal mine safety. As per report PEABODY Energy Australia has modified its application to the New South Wales Planning Department to include a 480-megalitre dam at the Wambo mine.

The Hunter Valley coal mining company says that the new water storage dam is needed to store additional groundwater pumped from the historic underground workings at the colliery.

The company claims that the groundwater inflows have the potential to prevent the continued safe operation of its North Wambo underground mine.

The dam would cover an area of approximately 20 hectares and is expected to reduce the frequency of controlled releases of excess water from Wambo into the Hunter River.
