Baosteel received first order for automotive super high strength steel

Thanks to the efforts made by the automotive sheets production, sales and R&D team of Baosteel Co Ltd in the earlier stage and recently a northern automaker signed the contract with Baosteel to purchase super high strength steel with tensile strength at 1200 MPa for the manufacture of automotive components. This is the first order for super high strength steel received since the special line for high strength steel started production in March this year which is of important significance for the development of super high strength steel market.

Automotive super high strength steel is the material commonly used by overseas automobile industry in safety structural members, which can reduce the weight of the automobile body and enhance safety, but it is seldom used domestically at present. After the hard work for many years, Baosteel built the first line especially for the production of automotive high strength steel in China through independent integration and innovation.

Through efforts, this northern automaker conducted experimental verification for the 1200 MPa super high strength steel trial made by Baosteel in April. The results show that compared with the material used formerly Baosteel's products can reduce the thickness and weight by a half and cut down the manufacture cost considerably and can completely satisfy the user's requirements for manufacture.
