American Iron & Steel Industries reported that, in the week ending June 27th 2009, US domestic raw steel production was 1.161 million tons while the capability utilization rate was 48.7%. Production was 2.154 million tons in the week ending June 27th 2008, while the capability utilization then was 90.3%. The current week production represents a 46.1% YoY decrease from the same period in the previous year.
Production for the week ending June 27th 2009 is up by 2.5% from the previous week ending June 20, 2009 when production was 1,133,000 tons and the rate of capability utilization was 47.5%.
Adjusted year-to-date production through June 27th 2009 was 26,518,000 tons at a capability utilization rate of 43.7%. That is a 51.8% decrease from the 54,932,000 tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 90.5%.
