
BL reported that the break own in the power plant of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd led to unscheduled shutdown of the refinery on Monday night.
An MRPL spokesperson said that the operations at the refinery restarted from Wednesday morning. The spokesperson said that the power plant tripped at the refinery on the night of August 24 causing the shutdown. An investigating committee is looking into the incident.
The spokesman said that “Supply from the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company took a little time to start.”
The spokesman added that “When the power cuts off, then the refinery has to shut down. Then, the gases will be emitted. Following this, there was a flare. There has been a shutdown, which was unscheduled, that was caused by the power failure at the power plant. The operation at the refinery was restarted on the morning of August 26. Any kind of losses are yet to be ascertained.”
