BL reported that a high power team constituted by the Shipping Ministry and headed by Capt PVK Mohan Chairman of the National Shipping Board will visit the Paradip port on September 26th.
According to the report, the committee will examine the iron ore handling facilities at various ports, the types of iron ore vessels calling at the ports for loading and why so many iron ore vessels, many of them unfit for undertaking sea voyages and with no firm loading program hang around in the Indian waters.
The accidents involving a few iron ore vessels in Indian waters in the past few months is believed to be causing concern to the Government.
The Union Shipping Minister, Mr GK Vasan therefore would like the committee to examine the issues relating to iron ore shipments.
