Italian plate market facing double whammy
Thursday, 01 Oct 2009

It is learnt that Italian domestic plate producers like Palini & Bertoli, Valsider and Trametal etc are selling plates at prices ranging EUR 450 per tonne to EUR 460 per tonne EXW, effective for thickness 15mm to 120mm in S275JR grade.

As per market reports, Marcegaglia has, on the contrary, pushed down the price and is presently offering plates at around EUR 420 per tonne EXW.

Availability is good and delivery time is still October November.

In general HRP market in Italy is quite depressed due to still very low production of metal mechanic field and lack of orders from public works.

On top Chinese steel mills and trading houses, after having dumped HRC prices to EUR 400 CIFFO 90 days, are pushing down plate with prices ranging at EUR 380 per tonne to EUR 390 per tonne + extras CFRO basis.
