Saturday, 24 Oct 2009

It is reported that Mitsui OSK Lines announced on October 21st that it had signed a 10 year transport contract, effective since 2011 with Shagang to ship iron ores for the mill.

Aiming to fulfill the contract, MOL made an order of a 206,500 DWT ore carrier to a Japanese shipbuilder and required delivery in 2011. The new ship will deal with the lines from Brazil and West Australia to Ningbo.

In addition, NYK Line another shipping company in Japan signed two contacts with Anshan Steel, another key steelmaker in China. One is for 10 years ending in 2019 to ship 15 million tonnes of iron ores from West Australia to China; the other is for 5 years starting from January 2010 to ship 2.5 million tonnes of iron ores per year from Brazil to China.
