Australian Steel Institute awarded a grant by Workcover NSW

It is reported that Australian Steel Institute has been awarded a grant by Workcover NSW to help improve steel handling safety.
The ASI will redevelop three sets of BlueScope Steel logistics safety guidelines materials covering the loading and unloading of trucks, working at height on trucks and trailers, and use of mobile equipment such as forklifts and cranes. The source materials were developed in house by a team of BlueScope Steel logistics professionals.
The ASI says it will develop the materials to be more suitable for the realities of tighter premises with less loading space and greater risk.
According to the ASI, the small and medium enterprise sector has thus far concentrated on in process safety measures such as manual handling, welding and processing of steel sections.
As a result, logistics and handling of steel in tandem with transport has received limited guidance. The ASI will develop the safety materials or systems which can then be adopted by the small and medium enterprises.
The ASI claims by making the busy interfaces of the steel industry safer, the benefits will naturally flow through the value chain.
The new materials will be mailed out in pack form to ASI members as soon as they are finalized and will be available to wider industry for download from the ASI’s website.
