GPCB to conduct environment public hearing for Essar projects

BL reported that Gujarat Pollution Control Board has scheduled environmental public hearing for capacity expansion of Vadidar Oil Terminal Ltd and Vadinar Power Company Ltd both belonging to the Essar group.

EPH has been scheduled to be held on December 1st 2009 at Vadidar. VOTL is a marine terminal of Essar group which operates a refinery at Vadinar in Jamnagar district.

A senior official in the GPCB said that “Presently VOTL's capacity is 10.5 million tonne per annum which is proposed to be raised to 32 million tonne per annum.”

Another project for which EPH has been scheduled is Vadidar Power Company Ltd which also belongs to the Essar group and operates a multi fuel captive co-generation power plant at Vadidar.

The official said that “VPCL operates a 483 MW multi fuel co generation power plant for captive use. The company has proposed to raise the capacity to 780 MW.”

According to officials, works related to capacity expansion of both the projects will start after issuance of environment clearance following the public hearing.
