AP reported that West Virginia recorded its third coal related fatality of the year when a miner was killed after a line on a hoist car broke, sending it back into the underground mine.
Federal and state mining officials said that Mr Charles Dixon was standing at the bottom of a slope when the car, which was carrying two other miners out of the mine, hit him. The accident occurred about 7 AM local time at the Newtown Energy Eagle Mine near Winifrede.
The two miners, Mr Daniel Ewing and Mr Dave Morgan, were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their ages, extent of their injuries and addresses were not immediately available.
According to federal Mine Safety & Health Administration's Web site, the fatality would be the nation's 14th coal mining death this year.
