Ruukki has announced that it is to deliver steel structures for three road bridges and a railway bridge for the E6 road project in Sweden. The bridges will be built on the section of road between Skee and Ejgst near Strömstad. This is one of the last phases of one of the most important road projects in Sweden on the route leading from Trelleborg, at the southern tip of the country, to Norway. Ruukki's customer and the main contractor in the project is Peab AB.
The bridges will total almost 600 metres in length and the order is worth around EUR 2.5 million.
Mr Göran Hannrup contracts manager from Peab Ab said that "The steel bridge solution will shorten construction time and minimize disruption to traffic on the busy E6 road. We chose Ruukki as the steel structure contractor because we wanted a reliable partner that manages the entire process from raw materials and fabrication to installation."
Ruukki is responsible for the fabrication and installation of load bearing steel structures for the bridges. The structures will be made at Ruukki's plant in Ylivieska, Finland and be transported by road to the construction site in southern Sweden. A high degree of structural prefabrication and short installation time will minimize disruption to traffic on this busy road and improve overall safety at the construction site.
Fabrication of the bridges will begin in late 2009 and the last installations are scheduled for spring 2011.
Ruukki has earlier been involved in a number of other E6 bridge projects. Work is currently under way on a 600 meter long road bridge spanning the Hudälven River and on the Partihallsförbindelsen link bridge, scheduled for completion in 2011, in the centre of Gothenburg to interconnect the E45 motorway and E20 road.
