It is reported that national rail operator ARG has spent USD 50 million on new locomotives in Western Australia's newest iron ore region. The 8 new locomotives will transport the ore from Koolyanobbing in Western Australia's Goldfields to the southern port of Esperance. The new engines are more fuel efficient, with increased horsepower.
Mr Ken Potts of ARG said that the iron ore potential in the region will make the spend worthwhile.
He added that "We are certainly having discussions with other junior iron ore miners around the place. A lot of them are in pre feasibility phase and it's probably a few years away before they start up and in fact if they do. Look we are hoping the business grows, we see a great potential out of the Goldfields into the Esperance port, but, like I say, I think that's a few years away before that ramps up."
