PTI reported that police arrested over 800 contract workers of public sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation after they picketed the railway station and blocked roads here in support of their demands including salary raise.

Police said at the railway station, they blocked the Cuddalore Tiruchirapalli passenger train, delaying its departure for about 10 minutes while another group blocked the Cuddalore Tiruchirapalli road for about one hour.

Mr Veeraramachandran the president of NLC authorized DMK trade union, said the ninth round of talks recently to resolve the strike by contract workers had failed after the management reportedly refused to concede their demand.

The strike by contract workers on their 10 point charter of demands, including permanent employment and higher salaries entered the 14th day today.
