8 companies keen to start coal mining in Angul

BS reported that the Orissa government has received proposals from 8 companies keen to start coal mining in Angul district.

Mr Raghunath Mohanty steel and mines minister of Orissa said that while the government has issued terms and conditions for mining operation in favor of four companies, the proposals of 4 others are under process.

Mr Mohanty said that there are 13 working mines of different minerals in Angul district.

Jindal Steel and Power Limited, Monnet Ispat and Energy Limited, Utkal Coal, Kalinga Mines Limited have been issued terms and conditions for coal mining.

The same is under process in case of 4 other companies. They are National Aluminium Company Limited, TATA Sponge Iron Limited, Bhushan Steel Limited and Mandakini Coal Limited.

He said that 2 companies, namely Jindal Steel and Power Limited and Monnet Ispat and Energy Limited proposed to set up steel plants in Angul district.

JSPL has signed MoU with the Orissa government for establishment of 6 million tonne per annum steel plant. Similarly, Monnet Ispat has inked MoU for setting up a 0.25 million tonne per annum steel plant. Besides, a portion of Bhushan Steel’s project area is also coming under Angul district. However, the government hasn’t received any fresh proposal for setting up of steel plants in Angul district.
