Residents of the Upper Hunter community of Aberdeen will meet with representatives from local mining companies and the thoroughbred industry tonight to discuss the future of mining developments near the town.

The Aberdeen Action Group has called the public meeting that will be attended by members of both the Upper Hunter and Muswellbrook Shires. The nearby Dartbrook site is expected to be at the center of discussions with Anglo Coal yet to formally announce its intentions for the former underground mine.

Mr Tom O'Connell lives in Aberdeen and said that the future plans for Dartbrook remain unclear. It's under maintenance at the moment. What they told us is they'll do a feasibility study on open cutting."
