It is reported that representatives for Alpha Natural resources will lay off 130 miners when it idles the Twilight Mine in Boone County and Bee Tree Mine in Raleigh County.

Many of the miners were notified Friday, but Ms Shayla Gibson husband found out on Monday. She said "We just got back from Myrtle Beach but we wouldn't have gone if we'd have know."

Ms Gibson said her job at the Medicine Stop in Uneeda won't be enough to cover expenses. She said "It's going to be hard and we have two small children."

Ms Gibson said not only will her family suffer, but the store where she works will hurt with 130 miners out of work. She said that "We won't make profit because no one will come in for food or anything."

Mr Marshall Tulley works at Giovanni Pizza, in the town of Van and says he delivers lunch to miners in Twilight every day. He said that "It not only effects the delivery drivers, but workers and the company, without the miners they'd go out of business."

In fact, he says he thought about getting into coal mining, but changed his mind when mines began to idle in the area.

Mr Tulley will head to West Virginia University to study in the fall instead.

Alpha representatives say the current low price for natural gas is having an impact on the coal industry.
