A Pilbara Iron ore company said that it will come to the rescue and employ all 70 workers who were due to be laid off from a tantalum mine near Wodgina, south of Port Hedland.

The tantalum mine owned by Global Advanced Metals is about to be shut down, because of a drop in global demand. But Atlas Iron said that its will take all of the workers to help on its own Wodgina expansion.

Mr David Flanagan MD of Atlas Iron said that its contractor BGC will start moving those workers across in the coming months. He said that “We understand they are going to pull across 10 to 15 drill and blast crew in February, and then the balance of the operators of the mining fleet, the maintenance crew and the excavation gear probably over the next month and a half.”
