Blast killed 9 workers in Colombian coal mine

It is reported that nine workers were killed Thursday when an accumulation of methane gas caused an explosion inside a coal mine in the northwestern Colombian town of Amaga.

Mr Alvaro Valencia Cano an attorney representing a mining association told Efe that “There were between 15 and 20 miners in the tunnel at the time of the blast.

Authorities said that police, the Red Cross and civil defense personnel also rushed went to the El Bloque mine, located near the road linking Amaga to Fredonia.
