It is reported that rescue workers recovered three dead bodies inside the coal mine in the northern state of Coahuila where 14 miners were trapped after an explosion
Mexican Labor Secretary Javier Lozano said that "I regret to inform you that three dead bodies have been found inside the mine where an accident occurred in Sabinas, Coahuila. I spoke with the families.”
He said that "The situation is not hopeful. I'll keep you informed.”
Rescue teams were unable to enter the mine until it was clear of toxic gases.
Mr Lozano said that the bodies of Mario Alberto Anguiano Montes, Leobardo Sanchez Santos and Rosario Valero were recovered by rescue teams.
The blast at the coal mine also injured a boy who was working outside the entrance.
The Attorney General's Office said that Jesus Fernando Lara Ruiz was operating the basket used to get miners in and out of the mine when he was injured by the blast. It said that "Both (of the boy's) arms were amputated and he is in critical condition at a hospital.”
