ABC reported that workers in a coal mine in Central Queensland's Bowen Basin are refusing to work for 3 hour blocks because they're unhappy about a new enterprise bargaining agreement.
The CFMEU Mr Glen Power said that they think the new agreement is too radical and compromises job security. Negotiations have been going on for more than a year and industrial action will continue unless they are satisfied with Peabody's negotiations.
He said that "We're reasonable people but the radical views and the radical changes that they're coming with we just can't contemplate that, because it's going to put our members in a very vulnerable position."
But Peabody Energy's Ms Jennifer Morgan said that enterprise bargaining agreements take time to negotiate. The company is focused on reaching an arrangement that works for everyone.
She said that "We're looking to improve cost efficiency and safety and production at North Goonyella. So we're looking at concentrating on these particular areas to make sure there's a resolution that suits both the workforce and the company."
