It is reported that Maithan Ispat is enjoying significant efficiency gains in their steel production process thanks to the introduction of a new 100 tonne per hour iron ore washing plant from CDE Asia.

The CDE washing process not only cleans the material of the fines which contains most of the unwanted contaminants Silica and Alumina but also significantly improves the Fe grade in the final washed products of both -30+5 mm and -5+0.075 mm sizes. In each of these products an increase of 2% Fe has been observed. This increase in Fe grade is enough to significantly improve the metallization of the product in the kiln.

The major success factor for this project was CDE’s capability to improve the quality of the iron ore material to such a degree that significant efficiencies have been achieved in the production processes of MIL. The operation of this plant is fully automatic and environmentally friendly. With pressure from everywhere to reduce the carbon footprint of the industry, this innovative approach has helped CDE to secure many contracts in recent times.

Mr Ajit Baruah the sales manager in charge of the project said “We are very happy with the results achieved from the washing plant installed at Maithan Ispat. The efforts we put in, from knowing the customer’s exact requirements and then retrofitting the washing system in their existing plant has not only made the plant cost effective in the best possible way but it also saved valuable plant area. We are very much hopeful of putting up similar plants in most of the DRI units across the country in the coming months.”

MIL manufactures structural steel for and is a subsidiary of Maithan Group. The Maithan Group is a USD 10.5 million diversified group with interests in ferroalloys, refractories, sponge iron and steel. The group companies enjoy a top 5 position in the refractory and ferroalloys sectors in India and has 5 manufacturing facilities located in the states of Jharkhand, West Bengal, Orissa and Meghalaya. Group exports are in excess of USD 6 million per annum through an international trading arm based out of Mumbai and Kolkata.
