PTI reported that Indian government said that Coal India Limited has lowered the production target to 440.20 million tonnes from 460.50 million tonnes for the current fiscal.
Moreover it is likely to miss the revised target too as the output recorded by February stood at 380.62 million tonnes.
An official statement said that "Revised estimate for CIL for 2010-11 is 440.20 million tonnes. Though, the achievement made up to February 2011 is 380.625 million tonnes." It added that the production target for CIL was fixed at 460.50 million tonnes as per Annual Plan 2010-11.
Coal ministry said in the statement that "The ministry of coal has reviewed the production level of CIL at several levels including reviews at Planning Commission. Accordingly, the government shall continue to intensify its efforts to provide the support required by the coal companies to achieve the targets."
The ministry said it will provide all support required by the coal firms to achieve targets. The public sector company's production in 2009-10 was 431 million tonnes.
