Adelaide based mining company Centrex Metals has decided not to pursue a plan to export iron ore through Port Lincoln. The South Australian Government gave approval three years ago, which led to protests about possible effects on fishing and grain movement through the region. The approval runs out this weekend and the project has not progressed.

Mr Phil Stavely GM of Centrex said that the company could reapply but for business and community reasons will focus instead on its Port Spencer proposal, further north. He added that "It is important that we work with the community so that it is part of our decision-making process is taking due regard of the locals who are going to be affected by our decisions."

He said that "There was a lot of community angst when that was on the table and Port Spencer probably provides a better option for the company and the community."
