Century Iron Mines has appointed engineer Mr Hubert Vallée as senior vice president of logistics, mine development and operations.

Mr Vallée, who will be based in Montreal, will lead the company’s large-scale and rapid deployment in the James Bay and Labrador Trough regions of Quebec and Labrador as it brings its major iron ore bodies in to production in the next five years and beyond.

His initial duties will focus on building the logistics solutions for the company's Labrador Trough and Duncan Lake projects.

He is a graduate of Laval University in electrical engineering and brings over 28 years of experience in the mining sector.

Most recently, Mr Vallée was responsible for expanding production at the Bloom Lake Mine by an extra eight metric tons per year, and is known for his superior abilities to bring projects on stream cost effectively and efficiently through innovative process and design management.

While at Consolidated Thompson, which was acquired by Cliffs Natural Resources, he was part of a tiny hands on management team which brought the first new Labrador Trough iron mine in 35 years in to production less than five years from the first stage of permitting.

Century's chief executive, Mr Sandy Chim said that "Hubert is a seasoned professional and the leader we need to fulfill our ambitious timetable to bring our ore to market, particularly to China, where our strategic partners have a growing need to supply their steel mills."
