IANS reported that a man exporting coal to Bangladesh has been abducted in Meghalaya by two unidentified men but no ransom call has so far been received by his family.
Mr Mukesh Kumar South Garo Hills district Superintendent of Police told IANS that “Rimudu Sutnga was abducted by two unidentified men about 6 PM on Thursday from a coal depot at Warima area.”
Mr Kumar said Sutnga's family members had informed the police about his suddenly going missing.
Last month, Garo National Liberation Army, a rebel group operating in the Garo Hills area, killed two migrant coal miners and attacked a petrol pump in the district. GNLA had earlier slapped extortion demands ranging from INR 500,000 to INR 1 crore on petrol pump owners, coal dealers and businessmen in the coal rich districts of the Garo Hills.
The GNLA is fighting for a sovereign 'Garoland' in western Meghalaya.
