West Virginia coal industry groups have formed a COALition with those in other states to defeat President Mr Barack Obama in the fall election. The groups made the announcement during a press conference.
The Logan County Vendors Association, the West Virginia Coal Association and Citizens for Coal are among the groups joining the effort.
Mr Jim Winkler VP of Logan County Vendors Association said that "The gloves are off. We're going to fight for our rights and our jobs." The groups will support the election of likely Republican nominee Mitt Romney and will focus on the southern coalfields, where Democrats have traditionally held strong majorities.
The group said that the Obama administration has waged a war on coal through excessive environmental regulations. Groups in coal producing states like Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wyoming, Colorado and Montana also have joined the COALition.
