PTI reported that 23 bogies of a goods train carrying coal for National Thermal Power Corporation's Kahalgaon thermal power plant derailed near Dhanokhar village under Sanokhar police station area in Bihar's Bhagalpur district.

As per report, the incident took place after a person boarded the train and pulled the chain to stop the speeding goods train so as to pilfer coal.

NTPC officials have rushed to the site to make arrangement for transportation of the coal from the derailed goods train to the thermal power plant at Kahalgaon.

The movement of goods trains from the Eastern Coal Limited (ECL)'s Lalmatia coal mine to the NTPC thermal power plant at Kahalgaon stood suspended till restoration of the track.
