It is reported that the coal seam gas furore reaches Newcastle Foreshore tomorrow, as protesters march against what they describe as an insidious industry.

A national day of action against the coal seam gas industry has been planned to coincide with National Water Week and protesters plan to meet at Camp Shortland before marching along the breakwall.

Fullerton Cove resident Ms Sue Walker says the purpose of the rally is to show unaware Newcastle residents how close they are to existing operations. She said "We're in second phase exploration here in Fullerton Cove."

She added that "Catherine Hill Bay is also in second phase so we have it to the north and we have it to the south and obviously we have it to the west as well at Singleton and Wollombi. Queensland's already full of wells, now it's coming into New South Wales."

She says the industry has infiltrated the Hunter Valley well before the appropriate research has been carried out. She added that "The major message is to actually educate the people of the Hunter that this is here, it's right here in Newcastle now.”

She also said "We haven't got enough independent studies on the damage that could occur to our aquifers, our drinking water, the environment. We need to put a hold on what's happening at the moment."
