It is reported that Australian listed Coalspur Mines has defined a coal resource of 128.1 million tonnes at Hinton West bringing the total coal resource to 467.3 million tonnes for its Hinton Coal Project at Alberta in Canada.

The resource at Hinton West has been defined from five coal seams ranging in thickness from 2.0 to 7.7 meters and it’s measured and indicated resources of 125.5 million tonnes represent 98% of the coal resource.

Mr Gene Wusaty MD & CEO of Coalspur said the coal at Hinton West is low sulphur high volatile, bituminous C thermal coal. Coal with these qualities is generally suitable for export to the Pacific Rim market.

The coal resource estimate has been based on considerable drilling and exploration activities undertaken on the Project by Esso in the 1980s and prepared by Canadian independent technical consultants.

The coal is hosted by the Coalspur Formation which consists of approximately 1,000 meters of inter bedded sandstones, siltstones, mudstones, bentonitic layers and coal. The coal-bearing package is approximately 250 meters thick.

The Hinton Coal Project covers approximately 4,976 hectares with its Hinton East comprising six coal leases covering approximately 3,984 hectares and its Hinton West comprising two coal leases covering approximately 640 hectares and three coal lease applications covering approximately 352 hectares.
