Superior Telegram reported that Northern Wisconsin Congressman Mr Sean Duffy said that the state and federal government must move ahead with studies for a proposed iron ore mine in the Penokee Mountain Range.

Republican Mr Sean Duffy of Ashland said that exploiting natural resources is a job creator that shouldn't be ignored. He added that "Pursuing our own resources is important, and if we can do it safely, absolutely I think we should pursue the mine. If you look at even western North Dakota, they have great job growth because they're pursuing their own energy resources. In a country where we have such massive amounts of resources, let's pursue them and put our people back to work instead of importing them from other parts of the world."

Mr Duffy said that he'll help shepherd a mining company Gogebic Taconite's requests through the federal regulatory process, although the mining proposal isn't that far along yet. He added that "This is an area that desperately needs good paying jobs. Now with that said, I want to give one caveat. Those jobs would not be worth the mass pollution of our beautiful Great Lakes."
