It is reported that Companhia Siderurgica do Para made the first export of pig iron through the locks Tucuruí.

Mr Luiz Carlos Monteiro president of Cosipar said he waited 20 years for this work, an alternative to the logistics of the Carajás Railroad Valley. Cosipar is investing USD 50 million in partnership with BNDES to build 20 new vessels to export their products through the Tocantins Waterway.

As per report two vessels of Cosipar transport company will cross the waterway linking the Port Marabá public Vila do Conde, Barcarena, near Bethlehem.

The waterway transport reduces the time of the crossing in half.

He said that "The waterway will help create a large developing area of the North and Midwest. With the opening of the first part of the work we have taken an important step. Now we expect the completion of the works with the overthrow of Pedral Lawrence, who is under the CAP will occur soon so we can be able to navigate the Tocantins throughout the year.”
