Daviess County Fiscal Court has voted to allow a company's request to rezone 700 acres of land for coal mining. However, both supporters and opponents of the move say the issue isn't settled yet.

At a meeting, Daviess County commissioners gave the go ahead to an ordinance that would let Western Kentucky Minerals mine in the Mt Pleasant community. The mining company believes land owners should have the ability to sell their land if their is coal beneath.

Opponents have spoken out against further mining in the area, saying it would lower property values and negatively impact the health of nearby residents.

Going into last night's vote, those for and against increased coal mining in Daviess County said if they lost the decision they would appeal to a circuit court. Any circuit court decision could be appealed all the way up to the Kentucky Supreme Court.
