It is reported that workers at the National Iron Ore Mining Company, Itakpe, Kogi State, Nigeria have been told to prepare for the possible loss of their jobs in the wake of the economic meltdown.

Ms Diezani Alison Madueke minister of Mines and Steel Development of Nigeria revealed this on last Friday in Itakpe during a working visit to the company.

Ms Alison-Madueke said that the global steel industry in general is suffering with rationalization being the most realistic option for the survival of the Nigerian government company.

She however promised the softest possible landing for those to be affected.
