According to statement from Senator Mr Jay Rockefeller on jobs at the Fola Coal Mine “I am very troubled about the news of layoffs at CONSOL Fola Mine. My thoughts are with each and every affected family, who through no fault of their own will find themselves facing uncertainty in a particularly trying time.

“The national economic crisis is hurting families and companies everywhere, and I assure you that my top priority is to retain and create as many jobs as possible and I have always been deeply committed to protecting our brave and dedicated miners and their families.

“While the news of layoffs is very distressing, I am encouraged by the work that has been done to preserve as many jobs as possible at the Fola mine - and allowed them to stay open. According to CONSOL, this restructuring could set CONSOL up to maintain business throughout this year.

“I want the affected employees and their families very much to know that I stand ready to help in any way I can as they face this heartbreaking news.”
