There is some good news from the Marquette Iron Range. The 70 layoffs expected this week have been reduced to one.
According to Ms Dale Hemmila a spokesman of Cliffs, through a series of early retirements with incentives and voluntary layoffs, the 70 expected to lose their jobs resulted in only one forced layoff.
The 70 were notified after the first of the year about the layoffs under the WARN Act.
Mr Hemmila said that no other layoffs are planned in Michigan.
The Tilden and Empire Mines have cut their production in half for this year.
