The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and the Nova Scotia environment department are inviting comments from the public on the proposed Donkin Export Coking Coal Project, which includes a coal mine on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

Comments are due September 12, according to a CEAA press release Monday.

The project is 75% owned by Xstrata Coal Canada Ltd and 25% owned by Erdene Resource Development Corp. of Halifax. The proposal includes the construction of an underground coal mine, power line and a barge load-out facility.

Paper copies of the consultation documents are available for viewing at six locations in Sydney, Donkin, Halifax and Glace Bay.
