miningmx.com reported that Eskom’s two executive directors Mr Brian Dames CEO and Mr Paul O’Flaherty chief financial officer received ZAR 3.54 million in bonus payouts in the past year in addition to normal salaries.

This is according to the Democratic Alliance, South Africa’s official opposition party which said it would challenge the bonuses. The DA said that “Yet Eskom cannot guarantee that we will have enough electricity generating capacity through 2016.”

This follows a report on Monday by Sake24 which said Transnet SOC’s top management were paid ZAR 63.6 million in bonuses on top of salaries that totalled ZAR 49.7 million.

The Democratic Alliance said that “It is in this light the DA will be delivering a submission to the Presidential State Owned Enterprises Review Committee.”
