It is reported that civic minded Hedland and district residents interested in making a difference to their community are invited to nominate for a position with BHP Billiton Iron Ore Hedland Community Consultative Group.

The BHP Billiton Iron Ore Hedland Community Consultative Group, first formed in 2001 is designed to provide an opportunity for the company to share information with the community and receive feedback regarding its operating environment, growth programs and environmental and economic impacts.

Mr Chris Cottier BHP Billiton Iron Ore senior manager of community and Indigenous affairs said the company is looking for interested community members who are committed and available to represent the community in a CCG forum.

He said that “We would be keen to hear from community members who have access to a strong community network and are willing to share information, views and issues with the company.”

He added that “The Company has been hosting a Community Consultative Group for the past ten years and we continue to be committed to consulting and engaging with the community and we see the CCG as an ideal opportunity for community members to become involved.”

The Hedland CCG meets bi-monthly throughout the year and is seeking representatives from the areas of environmental groups, indigenous community, crime and justice, ethnic community, CCI, small business, education, contractors, youth, community organisations and health and social services.

Expressions of interest for nominations close on February 3 2012.
