Fortescue Metals Group's joint company secretary Roderick Campbell has resigned, adding to a tumultuous week for the world's fourth biggest iron ore producer.

Fortescue shares this morning fell below AUD 3, sinking as much as 4.8 %, to AUD 2.97 its lowest in more than three years.

The company, controlled by billionaire Andrew "Twiggy" Forrest announced Mr Campbell's departure in a statement this morning. Mr Campbell also served as the company's investor relations head.

The statement comes days after Fortescue revealed plans to shed as many as 1000 jobs and the postponement of some of its expansion. The miner is battling sinking iron ore prices down more than a third since July a dwindling cash pile and repayments on some $9 billion in debt.

Mr Campbell had been with Fortescue for more than eight years, joining in 2004 after serving as WA State Manager for Rabobank, according to Fortescue's website.

He was still managing the fallout of Monday's dramatic announcements as recently as a day later.

The West Australian newspaper has reported external affairs stalwart Julian Tapp may also lose his job in the purge, but this move is yet to be confirmed.
