A federal environmental assessment has begun on Provincial Energy Ventures Ltd’s proposal to deepen the channel and berth at its coal pier in Sydney Harbor.

The proposal calls for the dredging process to be done in three phases, with excavated sediments placed in a confined disposal facility to be built adjacent to the coal pier.

The project is also subject to the province’s environmental assessment requirements.
