As many as five companies, namely Adani Enterprises, Coal & Oil (Coastal Energy), Knowledge Infrastructure Services Private Ltd (KISPL), Bhatia International and Peabody Inc have reportedly submitted bids to supply around 1.3 million tonne of coal to Minerals & Metals Trading Corporation Ltd.

A MMTC official told ICMW that "We have received bids from five companies. The bids were to be opened on September 29, but we could not open them due to various reasons and they will be opened on September 30 towards the evening.”

India Coal Market Watch had reported On September 14 that MMTC Ltd, has floated four separate, although limited e-tenders to procure around 1.335 million tonnes (+/- 10%) of imported steam coal.
