It is reported that Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation is likely to start lignite mining at four locations in Gujarat within two to six months. The four mines are located in Kachchh and Bhavnagar district.

As per report, GMDC is currently in the process of obtaining environmental clearance for these four locations from the Forest Department.

GMDC has recently stopped selling lignite from its Panjandrum mine in Kachchh to provide supplies for its Akiramota power project at Nani Chhervellage in Kachchh. There are two lignite based power plants of the total 250 MW generation capacity in this project.
