NZN reported that New Zeeland’s state owned Genesis Energy has been importing coal from Indonesia while 60 miners are being laid off at Solid Energy's Huntly mine.

Solid Energy is also state owned and NZ First's energy spokesman Andrew Williams says the situation is ridiculous. "One state owned company is reducing coal production and laying off workers while another is importing coal to produce power. The Government's left hand quite clearly doesn't know what the right hand is doing, and meanwhile New Zealand jobs are disappearing.”
