It is reported that Iron ore producer Gindalbie Metals flagship Karara project in the State Mid West remains on track for first shipments later this year.

The USD 2.57 billion Karara iron ore project, 200 kilometres east of Geraldton consists of a small scale hematite operation and a larger magnetite concentrate operation.

Gindalbie and Chinese steel maker Ansteel are behind the project.

In a trading update for the December quarter, Gindalbie says it still expects the first test shipment of magnetite concentrate from Karara in the September quarter of 2012.

In November last year, Gindalbie pushed the first shipment date back, from June 2012, because of issues with the main piping supplier.
