Bloomberg reported that Grange Resources Limited restarted a damaged mill in Tasmania three weeks earlier than planned after repairs were completed.

Mr Wayne Bould COO of Grange said that output at the Savage River operation, which produces about 2.7 million tonnes of iron ore annually, was halved for 40 days because of the shutdown.

Mr Bould said that “We are confident we can hold at that annualized rate after the resumption. The mill, shut on March 6, restarted along with the Port Latta pellet plant.

He said that Jiangsu Shagang, China’s largest privately owned steelmaker last year took control of Perth based Grange Resources to secure supplies of the steelmaking ingredient. Shagang hasn’t deferred purchases as China’s domestic growth rate slowed.

BlueScope Steel Limited has resumed purchases from Grange after it canceled four shipments. The company sells its iron ore on the spot market.
