It is reported that iron ore shipments on the Great Lakes totaled 5.7 million tonnes in October 2011, down by 11% MoM from September 2011, but an increase of 13% YoY.

October 2011 loadings also were up by 7.2% compared to the month's 5 year average. Shipments from US ports totaled 5.1 million tonnes, an increase of 18% YoY. However, loadings at Canadian ports slipped 16.3% YoY.
