It is reported that ecologists from Greenpeace Polska dumped 4 tonnes of coal in front of the Hotel Sheraton in Warsaw as part of an action against Poland for emitting vast amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

According to Greenpeace activists, the hotel is currently hosting economic ministers of 20 countries, many of whom pollute the atmosphere the most. The activists claim that they need to draw attention to the environmental damage that coal does, especially in light of the altered Climate Package regarding coal that the EU accepted.

Greenpeace thinks that the meeting in the hotel is a hypocrisy considering that the coal package only worsens the global climate crisis. The ecologists point out that Mr Waldemar Pawlak deputy Prime minister and economy minister of Poland will have a hard time reconciling environmental concerns with coal interests as Poland is one of the most important countries in this coal package. 90% of the nation's energy needs currently come from coal.

Poland is currently threatening to veto the EU’s Climate Package, which demands deep cuts in carbon emissions. It argues that the cuts are unfair to the poorer nations of the EU and risk economic growth and jobs.
