BNamericas reported that Brazilian mining institute Ibram's president Mr Paulo Camillo Penna said the country's mines and energy ministry will ask the association to help draft new mining legislation for the country.

Mr Penna said that "Not being called upon to elaborate new regulation created a profound discomfort among the Brazilian private mining sector. Ibram has manifested its worries. The institute received, though not formally, the answer from the ministry that we will be called on to give our opinion and subsidize the team developing the proposal."

The new legislation would create a new regulatory agency and would substitute the current national department of mineral production DNPM, among other initiatives.
